Agentic is an approach.
The business still needs a customer.
Anthropic’s guide to effective agents distinguishes predefined workflows from systems where a model directs its process and tool use. It also recommends adding complexity only when the task warrants it. This is a useful boundary for founders: a product can combine predictable workflows with agent-selected steps.
The category now includes both delivery infrastructure and several billing approaches. Anthropic’s April 2026 Managed Agents engineering account describes separating sessions, harnesses and execution environments for longer-running work. It is one provider’s implementation, not evidence that every agentic application is dependable or commercially viable.
For a new company, the opening may be a specific workflow, a specialist integration or an operational problem left between those layers. The buyer should be able to describe what improves before discussing how many agents are involved.
Four routes to a commercial offer
Choose a model that fits the promise.
Sell access.
A recurring fee for a workspace, team capability or industry-specific platform.
- A plausible offer
- An agent-assisted operations workspace with defined limits.
- What must be clear
- Included usage, permissions, support and who remains responsible for review.
Sell units of work.
Charge for a metered action, run or other clearly defined unit.
- A plausible offer
- A workflow API with usage reporting and spend controls.
- What must be clear
- How retries, failed runs and third-party costs affect the bill.
Sell an agreed result.
Connect billing to a completion criterion that both parties can inspect.
- A plausible offer
- A support workflow billed on a contractually defined resolution.
- What must be clear
- Acceptance, exceptions, reopened work and disputed outcomes.
Sell ongoing operation.
Combine implementation, monitoring, maintenance and human exception handling.
- A plausible offer
- A specialist automation partner for a recurring business process.
- What must be clear
- Service scope, escalation ownership and maintenance responsibilities.
Observed examples: Salesforce’s Agentforce pricing lists consumption and per-user approaches. Fin’s resolution documentation describes resolution-based billing, including confirmed and assumed resolutions. These examples illustrate different units of sale; they are not endorsements or universal definitions of success. Consult each provider for current terms.
The four models above are a planning framework, not an exhaustive market taxonomy. A business may combine setup fees, subscriptions and consumption—but customers still need to understand what they are purchasing.
The work after the first run matters.
A useful commercial question is: what does an accepted result actually cost to deliver? Model calls are one part. Tool access, retries, integrations, human review and support may also contribute. A usage meter alone does not tell you whether the customer received value.
A founder’s working checklist
- Define one customer and one recurring job.
- State what completion means and how it is checked.
- Specify permissions, review points and a stop condition.
- Measure delivery cost, including failed attempts and handoffs.
- Make the commercial unit understandable before scaling.
This is an original product-planning checklist, not a profitability forecast. Start with a workflow narrow enough to evaluate and important enough for a customer to care about.
The next opportunity may be
dependable execution.
Our interpretation: as agent tooling becomes easier to assemble, a durable company may distinguish itself through domain knowledge, useful integrations, recoverable workflows and evidence that the work was completed properly. More agents or more autonomy do not automatically create a better business.
That leaves room for different kinds of builders: a focused software provider, an implementation partner or a company that makes agent operations visible and manageable. The direction is promising enough to investigate; the outcome depends on the actual customer problem and execution.
Why AgenticTrek fits the story.
Agentic states the field. Trek supplies the journey: progressing through decisions, dealing with exceptions and reaching a destination. It could name the company helping customers make that transition from isolated demonstrations to useful operating workflows.
This is the naming case, not evidence that AgenticTrek already provides those capabilities.
